There is a lot of discussion about the Singularity, but at a meta level no discussion of the discussions about the Singularity.  What are your thoughts about the online places such discussions take place at the moment and the prevailing atmosphere and culture within them? Smile

Briefly, and IMO, there still seems to be 2 camps- the nay-sayers and the yea-sayers. Plus I still think the concept of the Singularity hasn't fully hit the "mainstream." It seems the general public is too distracted by cheap entertainment to bother with the complex questions of strong AI and its ramifications, especially in the USA. I don't know when this will change, if ever. Maybe the general public will simply "go with the flow" when the time comes.

It was interesting with the Colbert Report appearance yesterday and Ray's high standing in the Time poll more people are discussing the idea of the Singularity going mainstream.  The perception has changed a lot in a week!
