Singularity Weblog Terms of Service

Last updated: April 28, 2026

So you actually clicked through to read the legal stuff. Respect.

Most people don’t, and most legal pages aren’t worth reading anyway. We tried to make ours different. The lawyers wrote some of this in their native tongue, and we translated as much as we could into the kind of English humans actually use. A few unavoidable bits of legalese remain. We’ve kept those as short as possible.

By using SingularityWeblog.com (the “Site”), you agree to the terms below. If any of this doesn’t work for you, the kindest thing for both of us is to close the tab. By continuing to browse, you are bound by these Terms.

This page works alongside our Privacy Policy and our Affiliate and Compensation Disclosure. All three documents together describe how the Site operates. If something here conflicts with one of those, the more specific document wins for the topic it covers.

Who we are

The Site is owned and operated by Singularity Media Inc., based in Ontario, Canada. The host, writer, and main human behind it all is Nikola Danaylov (also known as “Socrates” from the Singularity.FM podcast).

What you can do with the content

Browse freely. Read, listen, watch, learn, share links, send articles to friends, quote short passages with attribution, and generally enjoy yourself. That is what the Site is for.

You may also download content for personal, non-commercial use. Just don’t strip out the copyright notices, bylines, or credits. Those are there because real humans made the work.

What you can’t do without written permission

  • Republish, redistribute, mirror, or syndicate our content on another site
  • Use any of our content commercially in any form
  • Translate, adapt, or modify our content for redistribution
  • Sell our content or include it in a paid product
  • Claim our content as your own

If you want to do any of these, write to us. The answer is sometimes yes, often with conditions, and never automatic.

AI training, scraping, and machine learning

This one matters, so we are saying it plainly.

You may not use any content from this Site, including text, audio, video, transcripts, images, metadata, or derived embeddings, to train, fine-tune, evaluate, benchmark, retrieve from, or otherwise develop any artificial intelligence model, machine learning system, large language model, retrieval-augmented system, or generative AI tool, without our prior written permission.

This applies whether you are a researcher, a startup, a foundation model lab, a dataset compiler, a search index, an AI agent acting on behalf of a user, or anyone else. It applies to scraping, crawling, bulk downloading, accessing through any API, or harvesting through any other automated means. It applies whether the resulting model is open or closed, free or commercial, public or internal.

We are not anti-AI. We have spent over fifteen years interviewing the people who are building it. Our archive is the result of years of original interviews, original writing, and direct relationships with the people in the work. Using that archive to train systems without permission is not flattering. It is taking.

If you represent an AI lab, a dataset project, or any organization interested in licensing the archive, please contact us via the contact page. We are open to the conversation.

Content you submit to us

If you send us a comment, a tip, a question, an interview suggestion, a guest pitch, an idea, or anything else, here is what happens:

You keep ownership of what you wrote. We don’t claim it as ours.

What we do receive is a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license to use, reproduce, display, edit for length and clarity, and distribute the submission across the Site, the podcast, the newsletter, social channels, and any future platform we operate. We can quote you, paraphrase you, respond to you in posts or episodes, and reference your idea in our work.

We will not sell your submission as a standalone product. We will not pretend you said something you didn’t. We will use reasonable judgment.

If you don’t want something to be public or quotable, don’t send it through public channels. Use the contact form and clearly mark it confidential.

Comments

Comments on the Site are handled by Disqus. To comment, you need a Disqus account, and Disqus’s own terms apply to you in addition to ours. We may edit, hide, or remove comments at our discretion, especially for spam, harassment, hate speech, threats, doxxing, deceptive marketing, or anything that looks like a scam.

We are not responsible for what other users post in the comments. If something is genuinely problematic, flag it through Disqus or write to us directly.

Trademarks and brand

The Singularity Weblog name, the Singularity.FM name, the Snglrty brand, our logos, and our wordmarks are ours. Other trademarks shown on the Site belong to their respective owners. None of these trademarks is licensed to you simply by being visible to you. If you want to use any of ours, ask first.

Links to other sites

We link out a lot. We link to guests’ work, books, research, news, tools, and other sites we find worthwhile. We try to link to credible sources, but we don’t continuously audit every linked site, and the contents of those sites can change without our knowledge. Following an external link is at your own risk.

Copyright takedown

If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice through our contact form, including:

  1. A description of the work you believe is infringed
  2. The URL on our Site where the alleged infringement appears
  3. Your contact information
  4. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized
  5. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that you are the rights holder or are authorized to act on their behalf
  6. Your physical or electronic signature

We will review and respond. If a takedown is warranted, we will act. If we believe the use is fair, we will explain our position.

No warranties

We try to make the Site accurate, useful, and reliable. We do not guarantee any of those things. The Site, including everything on it, is provided “as is” and “as available” with no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. In those places, the exclusions may not apply to you in full.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Singularity Media Inc., Nikola Danaylov, and anyone else who helps create, produce, host, or deliver the Site are not liable for any damages arising out of your access to or use of the Site, including direct, incidental, indirect, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages. If the Site breaks your computer, infects you with malware, keeps you up at night, or causes any other harm, we are sorry, but we are not on the hook for it.

Age

The Site is intended for users aged 13 and older. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, please use the Site with a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13, as described in our Privacy Policy. In jurisdictions where the relevant minimum age is higher (for example, 16 under GDPR-K rules), please observe the rule that applies to you.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from your use of the Site falls within the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will do our best to flag them more visibly. Continued use of the Site after the changes go live means you accept the updated Terms.
