Flatline is an extended version of the short film Heart Stop Beating (Sundance 2012). The movie tells the story of two visionary doctors from the Texas Heart Institute who successfully replaced a dying man’s heart with a rotor-driven artificial heart of their own design – proving that life is possible without a pulse or a heartbeat.
“Each year 3 or 400,000 people die of heart failure in the United State alone. If we had something – off the shelf and in a box, that we could use as a replacement for the deceased heart, then anybody who needs one can get one. That would be one of the most revolutionary advances of medicine for the past 100 years…”
